         Stonemountain Staff Spotlight

Meet Our Sewing Staff!

We are well-known for our knowledgeable and friendly sewing staff.  Every member of our team loves to sew and has a specialized area of sewing expertise. Some are quilters, others focus on garment sewing or home decor.  Whether you have a question about repairing a busted zipper or you're figuring out what fabric to use on the back of your quilt, we try our best to help YOU.  We often tell people that we're a hardware store for fabric and in a way, that's true!

For those who live too far away to experience our great customer service in person, please email us with your question or call 1-866-4SEW-FUN to get the answers and advice you need!  We are here to serve ALL sewing enthusiasts!

Dia de los Muertos cape

Linda joined the Stonemountain family in 2008, but she has been sewing since she was seven years old.

She learned how to sew by watching her grandmother, but mostly she learned out of necessity: as a child, she wanted more clothes for her dolls!Linda began sewing professionally in 1984 and has since worked freelance for the likes of Nolan Miller Couture, who was famous for designing gowns on the set of Dynasty and Fantasy Island. She decided to stay away from the fashion world (as it needs a lot of financial backing to "make it") and instead preferred freelance opportunities. The five years here at Stonemountain have passed faster than she expected and Linda enjoys sharing her knowledge with customers. While Linda has made many apparel items, including leggins, belts, and swimwear, she prefers making gloves (mostly because that means she has less fabric to store!).

Mermaid Skirt

Here is Antonia with her adorable mermaid skirt!
This skirt is darling, and so is Antonia!

Keeping it Cool!

Stonemountian Sales representative, Katy made this fine linen dress.
She said it was very easy!

The pattern is New Look 6102.
She had to raise the armhole as it was too low. Suzan, also found that this adjustment had to be made for her own version of this garment.
Katy said thiat this dress is very cool on a hot day, she found herself wearing it even before it was done!

Designed By Gerri

Gerri, Stonemountain sales associate, wearing a tunic top of her own design! No pattern.

Gerri's matching earings are made by Charlene Pittman;
another Stonemountain & Daughter sales associate.

Gorgeous Iridescent Heather Fade

Stonemountain Senior Sales Associate, Janet Sandberg, made this bright cotton voile into a beautiful shawl. When washed, the fabric fades naturally to this beautiful shade.

High Style Aviator Scarfs

Kate Ruddle, StoneMountain's Marketing and Web coordinator writes the newsletter along with input from Suzan Steinberg.

Walking by aisles of silk at Stonemountain & Daughter is greatly inspiring!
Kate uses a lot of charmeuse, chiffon, and habotai from Stonemountain for her
Le Beau Cou aviator-style silk scarves and her fabric sculpture.
Busy with starting a business, teaching, making art, and working at Stonemountain & Daughter, Kate likes to keep her style simple yet varied by taking a classic garment and changing it up silk scarves!

From hand-sewing a pillow at age 5 or 6 to making stunning silk blouses, Victoria is one of our most talented staff. Her favorite fabric to sew with is silk organza: "I don't sew with silk organza super frequently but I'm attracted to it," she says. Currently she's really into sewing jumpsuits and one-piece outfits, which you'll see her wearing at the store from time to time. She recommends the book The Art of Manipulating Fabric as her favorite sewing resource.

Kathleen has been with us for fourteen wonderful years!  She started sewing at age 6 or 7, making place mats and burlap crafts for fun.  Eventually she graduated to making a corduroy pleated skirt.  Taught  to sew by her mom and a grandmother who worked at a woolen mill, Kathleen soon learned to sew clothing for herself.  Hence, her sewing specialty is making simple and elegant clothing to wear every day. Many of her pieces are made with Linen, her favorite fiber.  She loves using twin needles and bias tape makers.  When not at the store, you can find her in a garden or dreaming of the Hamptons and Berkshires where she grew up. Come by and pay a visit to Kathleen and the rest of our awesome staff that is waiting to help YOU!
