Suzan's Helpful Hints

Did you ever need to estimate how much fabric you need to make your own bias tape for that special project? Here's a handy chart to help you the next time that question comes up.

Estimating Bias Yield -- Metric

This chart will help you to estimate how many individual bias strips can be cut from 0.95m. of fabric. Five handy cutting widths for bias strips are given.

The cutting widths include 13mm for turning under each raw edge 6mm and an additional 6mm for removing the slack:

*Strips cut 3.2cm wide can be used for 6mm double-fold bias binding or 13mm single-fold bias tape.

*Strips cut 4.5cm  wide can be used for 13mm double-fold bias binding or 2.5cm single-fold bias tape.

*Strips cut 5.7cm  wide will cover 6mm cable cord for welting or make 20mm double fold bias binding.
*Strips cut 7cm  wide can be used for 2.5cm double-fold bias binding or 5cm single-fold bias tape.
*Strips cut 9.5cm  wide can be used to cover 20mm cord for welting.
0.95m of fabric yields approximately this amout of bias strips (pieced separately).
