Suzan's Helpful Hints

I've made purses with various fusible interfacings, and when I try to invert the purse after sewing the sides and bottom, they all wrinkle so badly.

It's difficult to iron and the wrinkles don't always come out. I love the fusible for the way it makes the fabric look, but am really in a quandry as to which one won't wrinkle.

Thanks for your help.

Most stabilizers and interfacings for handbags will wrinkle to some degree when the bag is inverted. It is difficult to press a bag once assembled - We find that a pressing ham or sleeve roll are incredibly useful for this? (especially in hard-to-reach areas)!

Decor Bond and Fuse-a-Shade will press out. Always use a hot iron and lots of steam to melt all the glue bubbles.

As for interfacings that are less likely to crease and wrinkle, FUSIBLE FLEECE, is probably the best of the bunch. The only draw-back is that is almost like a lightweight fusible batting and will add "loft" or "puff" to your project, which you may or may not want.

Another option is to fuse cotton canvas to your fabric with Wonder Under, Stitch Witchery or Steam-a-Seam - it adds stability without that "papery" quality although it can make your fabric heavier.

We always suggest trying small samples of many products to find the one that you are most pleased with!
