Soft, Silky & Sheer with Fred Bloebaum
Sheer, lightweight fabrics continue to dominate the fashion scene, with an emphasis on very fluid, unstructured styles made from these fabrics. While this romantic style can be wonderful to see, these fabrics can be challenging to sew and to wear. This lecture/demonstration can help you conquer cutting and sewing difficulties, as well as teach you how to finish seams and hems with ease. Fabric samples, suggested styles and patterns, and completed garments are featured to give you confidence in choosing the perfect fabric and style for your next project.

You will learn techniques for sewing with sheers, combining fabrics, sewing a simple pull-on waistband, and preventing slippage between layers and a special two-toned hem. Students will come away with a lovely pair of pants, which will last for many seasons. Supply List.

Shawl Jacket Workshop with Tara Arnold
Using woolen shawls (available at Stonemountain!), you will make a single layered jacket that is simple to construct, drapes well, and shows off the beautiful shawl fabric. The design of the jacket can be used with other fabrics with or without borders and the design ideas you learn will inspire you to use shawls for other garments. Supply List. Make a Bias Skirt with Jane Foster
A bias skirt looks really good on everyone: It hangs long and lean and every wardrobe needs at least one. In this all-day class , Jane will show you how to cut and sew on bias. You will be fitted for and make a simple bias skirt with just two vertical seams and an elastic casing at the waist. This is your chance to use those wonderful drapey rayons and to leave wearing your new skirt! Supply List.

Luxurious Lingerie Workshop with Fred Bloebaum
In this class, students will practice a wide assortment of techniques used to create luxurious camisoles, tap pants, slips and teddies. You will see techniques for applying lace, elastic and other trims; constructing spaghetti straps; a profusion of seam finishes; and working with bias. Learn about the special fabrics used in constructing lingerie, such as charmeuse satin, lace and tricot, as well as needle and thread selection. This class features the new book from Taunton, Sewing Lingerie that Fits, by Karen Morris. Students will work on their own project(s) with Freds help. Come enjoy the afternoon with Fred.

You will learn to improve stitching quality and love your machine again. She will give tips on keeping your machine humming while keeping you in stitches. No matter what your skill level, you can learn once and for all why your machine may not be working the way you want. In this thorough and entertaining class you will develop a foundation so you can analyze each project and choose the best means of obtaining professional results.

This is a chance to get individual attention with your sewing and fitting challenges in these Sunday labs. The groups will be small and geared to YOUR needs. Maybe you would like a pattern or muslin fitted before you do all that wonderful embroidery on a garment or you always make a mess of zippers or welt pockets and would like to be shown an easy way. All about Ease with Gale Grigg Hazen
There is nothing worse than spending hours of time and yards of favorite fabric to make a garment you hate. To prevent this problem, the most important variable you to understand is ease. The proper amount of ease can be a very complicated issue. You must take into consideration the fabric, your measurements, the style, the garment type and your particular preference when deciding how much ease the garment you are working on needs. Learn the tricks to choosing patterns and pattern/fabric combinations that will consistently give you winners instead of losers.
