Our adult sewing classes* offer something for seamsters of every skill level! Please choose from a class category below for dates, times, and more information. (*adult classes are for ages 16 +)

Intro to Sewing
See if you are cut out to be a seamster in these special one-session classes. Come to class with tools and raw materials and leave with a finished tote bag or throw pillow... or learn sewing machine basics in our Crash Course Sewing Class!

Beginning Sewing & Beyond
Come learn to sew or improve your skills in these 15-hour hands-on beginner classes. Guided curriculum for first time students, guided independent projects for continuing students.
Open Sewing Session Labs
Is there a class you want but don't see on our list? Is there a garment you want to make or a simple home decorative project you'd like a hand with? These classes offer the most flexibility and choice to help you sew-sew-sew! A perfect way to finish up a project started in another class, too!
Garment Construction Techniques
Increase your knowledge and confidence by learning more techniques for making seams, installing zippers, operating a serger/overlock machine, or finesse your hand sewing skills!
Specialty Classes: Jackets, Pants, Business, Flowers & more!
So many choices! Bring your own project to an Open Sewing Lab, learn all about how to start your own crafty business, make a jacket or pants in a day, make gorgeous ribbon flowers or dye a shibori scarf, make a japanese sytle apron, or learn about knits - silky lingerie - and shop with La Fred! Check it out!
Pattern, Fitting & Design
Demystify pattern drafting, garment fitting and design with these innovative classes for intermediate seamsters! Learn about design, color theory, draping, make a duct tape dress form, or pants that fit!
Handbags & Totes
Learn about purses, handbag construction, makeup bags, and more. You can never have too many purses!
Time to Quilt
Shop with quilting instructor Angie Woolman or explore freeform patchwork, watercolor quilts, bindings, or begin quilting with our Quilt Sampler class!
Time to Knit & Crochet
Take an all-level class for all skill levels, or learn step-by-step in our Hip-to-Knit beginner and continuing knitting skill classes.
Classes especially for youth ages 9 - 15!
Come learn to sew or continue your sewing education with this fun summer series of classes.

Youth Summer Sewing Camps
Basic sewing class. Learn to sew in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Classes will include everything you need to know to get started sewing simple projects and get creative with your own ideas!

 


 


 



 


 

You may register by phone, in person, or by mail. Because of high demand, we require that you pre-register for all classes

Fees must be paid at the time of registration. We accept cash, local personal checks, and all major credit cards for class fees.

Registration by Phone
Call 510-845-6106 or 1-866-4SEW-FUN during business hours.
Please have your class number / date ready along with your credit card number if you wish to pay over the phone (recommended). This is the fastest way to register for our classes.

Registration by Mail
Please include your name, phone number, return address, class number and class date desired when you register with us by mail. Please include payment with your request. Make your check payable to Stonemountain.

We recommend that you call ahead to make sure there is room available in the class session of your choice before you mail your registration and payment.
Registration Inquiries by Email
We currently don't offer direct class registration online or via email, but if it's more convenient for you, email us. Write "Class Registration" in the subject line.

Please include your most convenient phone number, class numbers and dates you're interested in. A staff member will contact you.

Cancellation Policy & Missed Classes
We cannot transfer you to another class session or refund your fees unless we receive notice at least 7 days before the first day of your class. No make-up classes or refunds are provided for missed classes.
If your class is cancelled...
We will call to notify that your class has been cancelled. You will be issued a refund or class credit for any fees you have paid in advance.
Parking for Students
You are welcome to drop off all your supplies at the front counter and then go to secure a parking space. We will hold your things for you!

For daytime students:
90 minute paid parking is available in front of the store and across the street. Paid parking is enforced from 9 am - 6 pm Monday - Saturday. Free 2-hour parking is available around the corner on Blake Street
. Parking is free on Sundays.

For evening students:

All parking is free after 6 pm.
Supply Lists for Classes
Most hands-on classes will require a supply list. One will be sent out to you after you register and pay for your class. Supply lists come with a 20% off coupon good toward any regular priced merchandise that you may need for your class.

About our Classroom

Our second floor class facility features ample room for learning, sewing, cutting, pressing, and more!

Top of the line sewing machines, adjustable tables, irons, ironing boards, an Elna press, sergers... these are just a few of the features that we offer to our students in our updated classroom environment!

Janome HT2008 Sewing Machine
We supply brand-new, state-of-the art Janome HT2008 sewing machines for our students to use in the classroom. These are superior machines that are a joy for both students and teachers alike.

Currently we offer a limited number of these machines for sale. Please contact us for more information!
