QUILTING FOR AFRICA

Quilt Congo Header

Join Global Strategies for HIV Prevention and First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley in helping to sew quilts for women and girls undergoing surgical repair of fistulae from violent rape in Goma, Congo.

The Heal Africa Hospital in Goma will send photos of the quilt recipients so that participants may be better connected to those benefitting from this special project. Quilts will be hand delivered three to four times a year by travelers from Global Strategies for HIV Prevention and First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, or sent by DHL by Global Strategies along with medicines.

These are the quilt parameters:

- Quilts should be 60" x 72"

- Machine quilted

- Separate binding attached by hand or machine

- Quality of workmanship you would have in your own home

A sew-in label on the back with your name, city, and state is also welcome.

East Bay Heritage Quilters are participating in this project for those who need help quilting or would like to quilt with others. Information can be found on their website, www.EBHQ.org.

Stonemountain & Daughter is an official drop-off location for donated quilts. Participants will also receive a 10% discount off of regularly priced fabric, notions, and supplies used in the production of these beautiful quilts.
