Alta Bates Summit Medical Center’s
Centennial Quilt

To help celebrate “A Century of Caring,” Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is creating a Centennial quilt to honor its diverse past and present as well as the broad scope of services and departments that make up the current Alta Bates Summit family. From its beginnings 100 years ago as five heritage hospitals – Alta Bates, Herrick, Merritt, Peralta and Providence – the medical center continues to serve its surrounding communities by providing state of the art technology with compassionate care. The commemorative quilt will pay homage to our roots and yet reflect advances that have been made over the past 100 years.

With the help of Stonemoutain and Daughter Fine Fabrics, a kick-off event held last August allowed participants to learn modern sewing and quilting techniques and have a chance to brainstorm ideas. Over 30 departments from each of the three campuses – Summit, Ashby and Herrick – have designed and created squares reflecting their program or department’s contribution to hospital life. The Centennial Quilt is expected to be completed by this summer and will hang at the Summit campus.
Thank you to Stonemountain and Daughter Fine Fabrics for its continued support and sponsorship of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and its programs (especially it’s ongoing support of the Baby quilt program). And in particular, thank you to Suzan, Elva, and Karen for their individual help!
