Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics is owned by Bob and Suzan Steinberg. This father and daughter team are the third and fourth generations in the fabric industry in the state of California! Their well-stocked popular Berkeley store is the product of 90 YEARS of independent innovation and tradition.
It's all too obvious that there are fewer and fewer good independent stores of any kind -- especially in the fabric business. Twenty years ago there were many small fabric stores in every community, and now there are few left.

The large chains started heavily discounting patterns, thereby driving many independents out of business. The giant fabric store chains cannot make a profit on the fashion-quality fabrics they once sold and focus instead on selling craft supplies. Almost every day we hear customers say, "All I have near me is a large chain store", and we all nod in understanding. Very Sad. So we all need to buy from local independently-owned stores whenever possible.

What's So Special About Us? Why should you come to us to buy fabric? To start with, we offer great prices. Many of the luxurious fabrics that we stock go for much higher prices at other area stores. We also always have cottons and fashion fabrics on sale! We love bargains as much as you do, and as such we're always on the look out for extraordinary designer samples and other great deals so we can pass the value and savings on to you, the sewing enthusiast. We go the extra mile by offering our swatch service to both in-store and online customers so you can view our fabrics and make decisions on your time, not ours. Our customer service is old-fashioned and our staffers are all experienced with sewing and crafting. We care about you, we care about your project, and we care about your success. Our Fabrics and Notions are Now Online! We don't publish a printed catalog of what we sell: Our busy retail store receives new merchandise every weekday, and a printed catalog just wouldn't be able to keep up. However, we do have a small selection of our wares online, with more being added every week as stock is available! Of course, the best way to experience our store is still to visit in person - but if you are a long-distance customer and don't see what you want at our site, just call us and utilize our old-fashioned swatch service! Of course, we are interested in what you would like to see online. Please email us with items you'd like to see online!
