Create a Magical Garment and Win!

Did you know that there is a national sewing contest going on?

IPCA - Independent Pattern Company Alliance is hosting a contest and in support of independent pattern companies, Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics invites you put together your favorite IPCA pattern and finest fashion fabric to create a winning garment!

The contest theme is "Midnight Magic"...
Here's a beautiful embroidered silk organza to get you dreaming...

Entries must be received by Jan 26, 2012 - So let's get started!

Why Independent Patterns?

Independent patterns add variety, style, and personality to patterns. They are created by an individual with a particular focus, theme or taste. As they tend to be small companies they don't have to appeal to a huge audience and can have a niche audience or specialized focus. That makes them great fun for us!

There are so many wonderful independent patterns at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics - Please sit a while at our pattern table and browse the many different companies. You may just find a company that really clicks with you and fits your particular body type.

But remember only IPCA patterns are eligible for the contest - So choose carefully. Below we feature some of our favorite IPCA patterns by Kayla Kennington, Saf-T Pockets, Islander, LJ Designs, and Petite Plus.

Keyla Kennington's Fantasia Pattern looks a bit like a beautiful magical fairy jacket!

Look at these amazing details with tiny ribbons! The serged rolled hem is beautiful in contrasting color.

Who can resist the magic of an Irish Cloak?

Wrap yourself in classic beauty and elegance from Ireland's mystical past. This fully lined cloak has front tie closures and pockets in the lining. The oversized, detachable hood can be worn on your head or down over your back as a capelette. Experience level: intermediate to advanced.

And to blow you away - what about these unique wools?
The plaid is an Italian wool from Italy and the navy is a wool suiting with a flecked sparkle throughout... charming...must be seen! The wool suiting above might be best for the next coat as it can use a lighter wool...
Here the Keyla Kennington Fantasia Pattern was created as a wedding gown - exquisite..

Saf-T Pockets patterns specialize in concealed pockets and smooth lines - similar to the way that men's wear jackets have pockets between the lining and the jacket. Great for stashing your items on the go. This cloaked hooded Jacket holds the mystery of Midnight magic!

Saf-T-Pockets - Portlandia Coat

Anytime, anywhere, keep your cash undercover and your hands free! This unlined coat can be made reversible to give you two unique looks. Consider these amazing velvets... for interesting styles on the inside and or out - Wow, two coats for one!

Here are a few sumptuous buttons to inspire on red velvet...

Here is another coat brought to you by Petite Plus patterns. Petite Plus patterns are designed for the petite woman with narrow shoulders, full bust and wide torso. This is a very flattering pattern. The shoulder detail is beautiful and will accentuate your shoulder and bring the eye up to the face and shoulder. Welt pockets are always an elegant addition.

Petite Plus - Swing Coat

To make this coat sparkle - try piping the seams. Consider these great piping trims below... There are gold and silver metallics...

And beaded fringes and one that looks like the teeth of a zipper. What fun!

Suggested Fabrics: Medium-weight woven fabrics such as wool, silk, linen and mixed blends in flannel, tweed or crepe.  The Swing Coat can also be made in weather resistant rain wear or special occasion fabrics like satin.
